Trafalgar Road 2002. Anna O’Rourke
ver the past 14 years, we have gathered literally thousands of shots of
old Greystones.
And the one spot that really gets the banjo strings a-twangin’ is the old harbour.
You can get a little of the history here, and pretty much all of the pics over here. Just have your tissues and your tut-tuts at the ready.
It goes without saying that, despite the many years of putting together a jigsaw of the town’s history, we’re still excited agus delighted whenever a new batch of old photos pops through the GG letterbox.
Like these 2002 shots from Anna O’Rourke, an award-winning photographer who comes from a family of fine snappers.
Over to the lady herself…
The day I took these photos was way back when I was in my early twenties, I think. I just remember walking around the harbour with my camera taking lots of photos. As I often did, sometimes alongside my dad, Vincent. He was a photo enthusiast back in the day too and he had a great eye.
The harbour was so pretty back then. My dad grew up near The Cove, in the 1950s, so he saw it go through a few changes in his lifetime. As we all have now.

My brother John was also into amateur photography, taking some great aerial shots when he was up flying with my dad over Greystones and the two Sugarloafs from time to time. So then, my mum, Marka, came up with the idea of selling our photos. She made greeting cards
with them and sold our prints in St.Killian’s Hall weekly market. They sold very well and went to all corners of the world at Christmas time. She also had a stall at Christmas fairs every year, such as at the La Touche Hotel. This was probably around the late 80s! Great days, but it all seems so long ago now.
You’ll find a selection of our old harbour shots (including some snow-covered scenes) at The Boat Yard Gallery beside The Beach House. It’s great so many of us talk of the good ‘ol days of the old harbour still! At least, it keeps it alive in our memories.
Noice. You can check out some of those aerial shots here, and jump back through buckets of old harbour pics here, whilst The Boat Yard Gallery is right about here.
