The Unfurling of the Flags, a ceremony that signifies the opening of the club, took place this afternoon.
The flags were raised by President Anne O’Loughlin, Men’s Capt. Sean O’Brien and Lady Capt. Mary Doyle, and the bowling green was declared open for play.
Speaking at the opening, Anne welcomed everyone back to the club and thanked them for attending. She said it had been a long wet winter since the club closed the bowling green last October and also celebrated the end of their 40th season. It was time now to get back on the grass and enjoy bowling whether you want to play competitively or socially and Greystones offers great opportunities to do both.
Many of the members have continued to play through the winter, using Bray Bowling Club as their home ground. In addition to competing in three winter leagues, the club enjoyed weekly social bowling in Bray. Anne thanked former President Fergus O’Brien for his work in
organising a great winter of fun social bowling. She also thanked Bray Bowling Club for allowing Greystones to use their club.
2025 was a very successful year for Greystones, winning 2 Leagues and being runners-up in two others. Anne congratulated all the team Captains and players.
The Club is open for membership. Last year we had a very successful Open Weekend and 29 new members joined the club. This year the Open Days will be on Sunday May 3rd and Sunday May 10th. Full details will be revealed closer to the dates.
