Bray Harbour Regeneration Gets Closer

aving secured funding back in November 2022, Wicklow County Council’s plans to upgrade Bray Harbour have been given the thumbs up by the Department of Housing…

The €7.23m project is getting its primary moolah from the housing department’s Urban Regeneration Development Funding.

So far, just under €100,000 of that budget has been spent on the project, largely covering paperwork and business studies. The final budget will be 75% financed by the government and 25% by Wicklow County Council.

The planned works at Bray harbour include:

⚫ Review potential for harbour wall extension, dredging of the waterbody for improved berthing and protection of boats from storms
⚫ Amenity and Public Realm – extend amenity area, improve street lighting, paving, cycle provision and access to recreational facilities
⚫ Promenade board walk linking the beach promenade with the harbour

The abandoned 2001 regeneration

RPS Consultants were engaged to carry out a feasibility study in 2022, the council having wisely abandoned a 2001 plan that was later ridiculed by Bray natives. And rightly so.

As the latest project progresses, there are still hurdles to jump before the diggers can start their engines, the first being a detailed cost estimate from the council so they can find the right builder. At the right price.
