Tánaiste and TD for Wicklow can confirm that Greystones Garda Station is formally included for general refurbishment under the new Justice Sector Capital Plan 2026–2030, agreed as part of the National Development Plan Review 2025.
Under this plan, Government has allocated €2.18 billion in capital funding for the Justice sector between 2026 and 2030. Of this, over €910 million is being invested in An Garda Síochána, including a €364 million construction and estate refurbishment programme to deliver modern, fit-for-purpose Garda stations across the country.
Within that programme, a dedicated €35 million regional refurbishment fund has been established to upgrade existing stations.
Greystones Garda Station is explicitly listed in this fund for general refurbishment works, alongside other stations nationwide.
Speaking today Tánaiste Simon Harris said: “This is very positive news for Greystones and the wider county.
“The inclusion of Greystones Garda Station in the NDP Justice Plan firmly secures the project as part of the core Garda estate programme for the years 2026–2030 and removes any doubt about whether the refurbishment will proceed.
“For too long Garda facilities in Greystones Garda Station have lagged far behind what Gardaí and the community need. The station still does not have basic features despite serving a growing town.
“I’m glad to say that is now changing and state
of the art facilities are now underway.”
The planned refurbishment will deliver much needed internal upgrades. These works are aimed at improving working conditions for Garda members and staff and making it easier and safer for the public to access policing services locally.
Nationally, the Garda estate programme is designed to strengthen frontline policing by modernising stations, improving accessibility and upgrading essential infrastructure.
Tánaiste Simon Harris added: “The inclusion of Greystones in the regional refurbishment fund means that our local station will now benefit from the same investment that is being delivered across the country.
“I am conscious that this project has been long promised and that people in Greystones, Delgany, Kilcoole and the wider North Wicklow area have waited far too long to see real progress. I have ensured that the condition of the station has been highlighted repeatedly in recent years and the delays in getting works from design to delivery have been a source of justifiable frustration.
“The decision to embed Greystones Garda Station in the five-year Justice Sector Capital Plan is about finally moving from promise to delivery.
“The Office of Public Works and An Garda Síochána will now advance the remaining stages of design, statutory approvals, tender and construction within the framework of this NDP allocation, with works scheduled to commence during the lifetime of the 2026–2030 programme.
