e the holy, didn’t half of Greystones pile down to the Dr Hickey Park rugby club this fine August 2016 afternoon to catch the Leinster team in training.
And the boys didn’t disappoint. Which, you know, can sometimes happen.
The lads brought muscle! They brought skill! They brought that new New Zealand coach!
Most importantly, they brought hugs, selfies, autographs, a dog and a baby!
In fact, at least over half the Leinster lad’s time in Greystones was spent meeting and greeting those eager Greystones fans, as people offered up their team jerseys, their autograph books and their offspring, all in the hope of getting a team member to sign their name across their heart.
Literally, for some kids, as they walked home later, autographs covering every inch of their Leinster and Ireland tops.
Today was a fan’s dream, as our county’s pride and joy made sure that everyone got some time.
They came, they chased a ball, battered some teammates, scratched their arses, and, of course, conquered this happy, wide-eyed Greystones crowd. Again.
Jaysus, if they’re this well organised on the pitch over the coming year, the mantlepiece will be creaking with trophies.
