Burnaby Park Gets The Builders In

iven just how long it’s been in arrested development, we were beginning to think that the new but unfinished sandy pitch by the main entrance to Burnaby Park might actually be an art installation.

And then we saw a whole heap of construction lorries, diggers and burly men in hard hats turning up today and thought, hey, the games are finally about to commence.

Turns out we was wrong. The men from DonLow Construction had others plans on their mind.

Namely, access improvements from the corner of Killincarrick Road and Church Road.

The installation of new park benches.

The installation of two more chess tables.

The installation of a bespoke park bench at the 1916 memorial garden over by the bowling club.

And the installation of a drinking water fountain.

Thought we had the latter sorted back in 2018, but hey, you can never have too much free drinking water. And we still reckon that the park’s 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith should have a painted map on either side, the new Greystones on the frong, the historical on the back.

Still, great to see some useful new additions to the park, along with the other current upgrades around Greystones and beyond, but you have to wonder if the council’s daily diary is being organised by The Randomiser 3000.

Approximately 3,278 pedestrian crossings have been installed throughout the Delgany Wood housing estate in recent months, and not even a white flag on a stick in the Formula 1 pit stop that is now Delgany village.

And we’re in the middle of five months of renovations on the Charlesland dual carriageway roundabouts and yet not one useful penny has been spent on the closed Cliff Walk over the past four years.

We’re sure such concerns are viewed as just whinges and roundabouts by those in the council, but a little smart planning would go a long way around here.

Quite possibly all the way around Bray Head, in fact…
