hanks to missed deadlines and all sorts of planning shenanigans, it took the bould Bernard Gallagher quite a few years to finally secure planning for his rooftop restaurant down at Greystones marina.

And sure, wouldn’t it have the best views the whole town, of course, given that this new harbour eatery would be three flights up.

Which should be enough to see over the top of even the biggest feckuyacht.

It was made available in 2024 to rent through acres.ie, whose boast for this ‘unique opportunity to establish a restaurant in the stunning Greystones Marina‘ sadly fell on deaf ears.

No one was biting…

Which is why Bernard changed tact, applying instead to have the first and second floor turned into offices.

In the cover letter for the new planning application on July 3rd last year, Bernard wrote, ‘We have tried everything over the last few years to get a tenant for the restaurant upstairs. Despite these efforts, we have failed to get any offers to run and operate a restaurant out of our building’.

And now, Wicklow Planning have given the offices the thumbs up. With the condition that the ‘proposed development would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or property in the vicinity’.

Dang! The place would have made for one fine restaurant. Here’s hoping whoever takes the top floor offices do appointments. And they let you bring your own sandwiches.
