Ahead of their appearance at the Christmas Lights party in Burnaby Park this evening, the Holyhead Male Voice Choir were taken on a tour around these here parts.

To find out which of our parts are actually connected to their parts.

The two-hour tour was an insight into the La Touche family of Bellevue, which included a visit to the Bellevue Demesne at the Ballydonagh Gate, a viewing of The Folly (aka The Octagon) from the Glenview Hotel, and a visit to Christ Church in Delgany for a talk at the La Touche monument. We were met there by the Rector, Natasha Quinn Thomas.

The group also stopped at Greystones harbour to talk about the schooner Velinheli and on to the Railway Station at the boundary of the La Touche and Hawkins Whitshed estates.

The highlight of the tour, in Christ Church the Holyhead Male Voice Choir gave a rousing rendition of the Welsh anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land of My Fathers).

Three distinct connections between Greystones and North Wales were introduced to the group.

⦿ Richard Edwards, a descendant of King Rhodri Mawr of Gwynedd, was granted the land at Rathdown by King Charles in 1666. This land was later bought by David La Touche.
⦿ Rev. Natasha Quinn Thomas is from Rhyl in North Wales.
⦿ And finally the ship Velinheli was built in Wales and used primarily for the coal/slate trade here. It was owned by Greystones coal importer Arthur Evans Esq. who had Welsh heritage. More here.

The group also went on to a reception in the Council chamber hosted by Mayor Lourda Scott, where the unveiling of an official Holyhead Room took place. Just remember, what happens in The Holyhead Room, yn aros yn Ystafell Caergybi. John McGowan pics here.
