Insomnia. Just in case you didn’t see the sign.
t’s only when we went looking for some pics of the just-closed Insomnia
that we realised just how much Church Road has changed over the past 10 years.
And digging deeper, how much it had changed in the 10 years before that, and the decade before that…

For a certain generation, there will always be Scuffil’s, Bel’s, Eugene’s, O’Donoghue’s, Tino’s, Scott’s, Ferns, Copper Kettle, Morans, Mary Hackett’s, Paddy’s and Frank Clarke’s.
For another, it’s Mooney’s, Three Q’s, Azur, Pineto’s, Champs, Monica Peters, Paraphernalia, Something Nice, Fitzgeralds, Caviston, Xtravision, Heaton’s, The Shopping Basket, Ireton’s, Cottonwood, Fuchuzy’s, Charlie’s, CyclePlus, and on and on….
And given that Greystones is still good for businesses, the neverending, ever-changing story continues, with Insomnia having closed its doors on Sunday, just as the neighbouring Susan Collins Home Of Hair expanded to Blacklion.

Helena and Mentone SEPT25
But every time one door closes around here, another opens, exemplified by the fact that Insomnia’s nextdoor neighbour, Tide Wok, has just opened, and beside them, the makeover of those cute-as-a-button cottages, Helena and Mentone, into shops at the front – including, fingers crossed, a wine bar – and apartments at the back is almost complete.
And if you’d like to be part of Church Road history, young Derrick McGovern has the lease for the Insomnia building ready agus waiting...
Here’s the lowdown…
McGovern Estates is delighted to offer an exceptional and rare opportunity for a discerning tenant to acquire a new 20/25-year lease for this high profile retail unit (formally Insomnia) on arguably the premier pitch location in the centre of Greystones bustling main street.
This prime retail unit is ideally located by the DART station and car park and benefits from a westerly orientation to the front entrance. Burnaby Park is also within 50 meters as are many other wonderful amenities.
With this new 20/25-year lease, rates are €3,075 a year and
the asking rent is €60,000 per annum.
Greystones benefits from excellent transport links including the N11 which provides direct access to the M50 and Dublin city centre. The towns population is over 22,000 people (2022) and is considered an affluent town. The town won a prestigious award in 2021 as the world’s most liveable community.
