he sweet arrival of what’s shaping up to be a pretty fine summer is always a good time to shed some old skin, and discover a few new sensations for a new season.

So, if you’re stuck in a rut, or just sitting here in limbo, there’s plenty of life-affirming kicks out there in this fine little town of ours.

There are plenty of smart people out there too who have realised that now is always the perfect time to check out all those beautiful trails we’re surrounded by. 

For those who might still feel like playing it safe and staying close to home, there’s our extensive archives of vintage photographs, histories and interviews with the good, the bad and the incredibly utilitarian to work your way through. Only took us 14 years to pull together, and we’re far from finished putting all the jigsaw pieces of Greystones’ colourful past together. You can map the journey so far right here.

And forgive the wobbly layout on some of those old posts – we’re still redesigning the site page by page after a major revamp or two back in 2023. Anyone out there got a year handy to update 8,354 feature posts?

And given that Greystones has remained in something approaching a coma after all those lockdowns, making the effort to go out that door and joining hands with the living has never been more important. Not just for the town’s economy, but, hey, our mental health.

Can be an influencer, can be one of those fecks who splash the cash on someone less fortunate than them but have a camera crew in tow so as to make more money than they give away. Just any shyster. Happening throughout July and August at the swanky new Greystones Community College, LillyCat Studios have their STEM & Art Summer Camps, bringing your kid’s wild imagination to life with robotics, dayglo painting and general art-meets-science magic. The town’s youth theatre Making Waves have their first-ever summer camps running through July, with ages 12 to 14 covered from the 13th to 17th and ages 15 to 18 from the 20th to the 24th. It’s 10am to 3pm daily, and €195 for the full 5 days. Details here.

One of Wicklow’s most popular summer camps, Designer Minds are once again bringing plenty of STEAM to town in 2026. STEAM standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Maths. Which just about covers every thrill known to parent agus child. This year’s 5-day STEAM Summer Camps for Wicklow run at Bray’s Presentation College from July 13th, Arklow’s Carysfort NS from July 20th, the Presbyterian Hall in Greystones from June 29th and July 27th (9am for Juniors; 2pm for Seniors), Blessington Gaelscoil na Lochanna on July 27th, and Wicklow’s Methodist Hall on August 8th, for ages 6½yrs-12yrs, generally from 9am to 1pm. Running on July 13th, July 27th and August 17th, the Greystones United AFC’s 5-day summer camps tend to sell out pretty dang quick. Aimed at kids 5 to 12, it’s 10am to 2pm daily, the full five days costing €65. You can register here.

Running weekly through July and August, the Greystones Music Academy gang down at Shoreline Leisure will be bringing both the rock agus the roll to your kid’s summer, as they take on all genres, all instruments and all skill levels. Greystones Nursing Home on Church Road launched their Seapatrick Dementia Café on June 17th, with speakers from The Alzheimers Society joining in the fun agus scones. The idea being a new monthly social group every third Tuesday providing a safe and comfortable environment where people with dementia and their carers can enjoy time together and remain socially connected with others. The last time Greystones was overrun with scooters, it was the Wicklow 50 commandeering the harbour back in September 2018, as a fundraiser for Jade McCann. From July 17th to 19th, Ireland’s Scooter Association will be celebrating its 30th anniversary by taking over the rugby club. Entitled What’s The Story? The mighty Bravo Speech & Drama continue their Saturday morning classes, with 7yrs+ from 11.10am to 12pm and 11yrs+ from 12.10pm to 1pm. Encouraging kids to use their creativity in theatre games, mime, storytelling, characterisation and voice exercises, the course culminates in a performance for family and friends. Boom!

Such conundrums will be unpacked and unwound at Greystones’ new Philosophy Club, meeting on the first Saturday of each month in Greystones Library at 2.30pm. Doing exactly what it says on the multi-coloured Suzu, the freshly-minted Young Adult Manga Book Club happens at Greystones library on the first Saturday of each month at 10am. If you’re kid has a habit of getting a little dramatic, actor and producer Rob Murphy returns to Greystones in September with his acclaimed Dramatic Action Stage School for Saturday morning classes in Swann Hall at St Patrick’s Church. Over at the Newcastle Community Centre every Saturday, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, you can catch the long-running North Wicklow Country Market (started in 1970!), where you’ll find all sorts of local goodies. And they stock some popular goodies from the much-missed The Three Q’s – including their relish, their ketchup and Granny Q’s brown bread. The last time Greystones was overrun with scooters, it was the Wicklow 50 commandeering the harbour back in September 2018, as a fundraiser for Jade McCann. From July 17th to 19th, Ireland’s Scooter Association will be celebrating its 30th anniversary by taking over the rugby club. Entitled What’s The Story? Scooter Glory 2026, there will be stalls, food trucks, a custom show, camping, DJs all weekend and, hey, much more. You can grab your ticket right about here.

Part of the sprawling Bray Festival 2026, which runs from June to September, the Beach BBQ Festival is a particular highlight, running this year on Saturday, July 18th and Sunday 19th, from 11am to 7pm each day. Running every Sunday from May 31st to August 30th, 11am to 5.30pm, The Plaza Market may have supersized to become a Dundrum Pop-Up Shopping Centre every Christmas, hoovering up all the precious Yuletide moolah, but it’s open air summers are a fine fit for the harbour, bringing together many crafters, foodies and arty chancers. There’s been a stupid amount of headbanging about the market ever since its December outings doubled in size to more 80 stalls, they registered as a company, and also got a Chinese car manufacturer on as sponsors, but sitting pretty in the summer sun, it’s a welcome sight. And that summer sun may even tempt visitors up through the town afterwards, helping some of those paying far, far more than €25 to set up shop for the day.
